Liga MX 2026 Liguilla: dates, qualified teams, matchups and where to watch the Apertura 2026 games

The Liguilla is the most exciting stage of Mexican football. Eight teams, single elimination, and two months of matches that decide the Apertura 2026 champion. In this guide you’ll find the confirmed dates, how qualification stands, and where to watch every match live from Mexico.
When does the Apertura 2026 Liguilla start?
The regular season ends with matchday 17, played November 20–22. After that, the final phase kicks off with this schedule:
- Quarterfinals: November 25, 26, 28 and 29
- Semifinals: December 2, 3, 5 and 6
- Final (two legs): December 10 and 13
One important exception: if Toluca reaches the final, the dates would move to December 24 and 27. The reason is that the Diablos Rojos play the FIFA Intercontinental Cup in December, and Liga MX has planned for that schedule adjustment.
Each tie is played over two legs, and the exact kick-off times are announced once the matchups are set. We’ll update this guide as soon as they’re confirmed.
Qualified teams
Apertura 2026 changed an important rule: there is no repechaje or Play-In. The top eight teams in the general table advance directly to the quarterfinals. Ninth place and below — season over.
This is how the race for the eight tickets stands on matchday 12:
- América — 21 points (leaders)
- Toluca — 20 points
- Querétaro — 20 points
- Chivas — 19 points
- León — 18 points
- Atlas — 18 points
- Cruz Azul — 17 points
- Tijuana — 15 points
Further down, teams like Pumas (12th with 13 points) still have room, but the top-8 cut is very tight: only a couple of points separate eighth place from the chasers. The last five matchdays of the regular season are going to be a war.
América, leaders with 21 points, is the team to beat. Toluca and Querétaro are breathing down their neck with 20, while Chivas, León, Atlas and Cruz Azul fight not to let go of their qualifying spots.
How the matchups work
The Liguilla format is simple and hasn’t changed:
- 1st vs 8th, 2nd vs 7th, 3rd vs 6th and 4th vs 5th
- Each tie is played over two legs
- If the aggregate score is tied, the team with the better regular-season position advances
- The only exception is the final: regular-season position doesn’t count there. If the aggregate is tied, it goes to extra time and, if needed, penalties
The higher-seeded team closes the tie at home, which makes finishing in the top four a real advantage. That’s why the battle for first place in the final matchdays isn’t just about pride: it defines the entire road to the title.
Where to watch the Liguilla live in Mexico
